Agricultural Microbiology is concerned with plant-associated microbes. It aims to address problems in agricultural practices usually caused by a lack of biodiversity in microbial communities.  Agricultural Microbiology deals with the microbiology of soil fertility, such as microbial degradation of organic matter and soil nutrient transformations.

  • Plant – Microbe Symbiosis – In symbiotic relationship, majority of plant growth promoting organisms colonize the surface of plant roots. Three major groups of microbial inoculants used on agricultural crops:
    • ArbuscularMycorrhizal fungi (AMF)
    • Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR)
    • Nitrogen – Fixing Rhizobia

    1. Microbial Production of Biopolymer from Agro Waste and its Applications in Crop Protections
    • To isolate, analysis and extraction of maximum production of PHB under different carbon and nitrogen conditions.
    • To apply the biopolymers in agriculture with special reference to crop protections
    • To produce bioactive molecules using biopolymer and to develop resistance to phytopathogens.

    • Biofertilizer is the path of research, testing, and development of new effective strains of beneficial microbes and their production technologies.
    1. Bioconversion of Agricultural waste / residues to compost.
    • The compost generated by bioconversion of agroresidues offers several benefits such as enhanced soil fertility and soil health which can lead to increased agricultural productivity, improved soil biodiversity, reduced ecological risks and a healthier environment.
